The Ben Rhydding Fete is organised by the community for the community with all those involved volunteering their time. Over the years it has proved itself to be a popular event on the local calendar since its beginnings in 2006.  WTA has performed at the Fete for years and as ever it was a huge success, despite the constant changing weather.

This year we performed 3 popular numbers from our recent production ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’. Bronze, Silver and Gold jazz opened with the energetic ‘Babies of the Blitz’, which was received so well by the audience; this was followed by our wonderful Grade 4 modern students, they did particular well, as due to low numbers in Junior Choreography we had to cancel their dance and replace it with ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’.  Grade 4 only had one rehearsal before the fete, and even this dance had to be altered as we only had 6 dancers instead of the original 9, but the girls were so enthusiastic and gave a great performance.  One of the parents commented  ‘It was great to watch the dances again, as I enjoyed them so much last time I saw them being performed, I especially love those army costumes!’

We ended our slot on the field with ‘Dhoom Machale’. Although originally performed by the Adult Bollywood class in the show, this number was danced for the fete by 5 adults and the senior jazz class. We really pride ourselves at WTA on the family community we have at the dancing school, and I think this number was testimony to that. Not every dancing school has such warmth and acceptance from teenagers to allow adults to feel comfortable enough to dance alongside them, a real blessing to be a part of. Together they gave a memorable and colourful performance, brightening what was a rather wet year at the Fete.
