Its been an incredible cabaret this year, even more so as the children have only had 4 weeks to prepare for it due to their exams. Parents arrived to the unrecognisable St Johns church hall all decked with decorations, sparkles and lights. Mulled wine was being served and Christmas music was setting the scene. Bronze jazz kicked off the show with a high energy, sparkly jingle bell dance. This was followed by our youngest performers trotting on to Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer; The youngest in the show this year was only 3 and she was magnificent, smiling and beaming to her onlooking parents. Father Christmas whisked the learner reindeer and elf helpers off the stage to the sounds of of oo’s and ahh’s. Act 1 continued with sequins and taps, the beautiful vocals of 5 of our seniors and ended with the moving and powerful piece created by senior choreography about the devastation of Hiroshima, not quite the festive joy people expected, but allowed the audience to reflect on those for whom Christmas may not be possible.
Act 2 began with another Jingle Bell number, this time danced by our very talented Grade 5 modern class. Suzy snowflake followed and the festive numbers continued. Parents always tell us its the start of their Christmas and this year was no different, the audience and students left buzzing with the spirit of Christmas in every step. Have a wonderful holiday and see you in the New Year!
