FLOOR AND CHOREOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Well done to all the students who took part in the workshop on Sunday, you worked so hard and really listened well and implemented everything Matt was talking about to your dancing and choreography.

The three hours were broken down into 3 sections, we started in a circle slowly warming up the body, during this time Matt pushed the students out of their comfort zone by getting them to move in ways that are slightly alien to them, a few giggles broke out, which were welcomed and soon died down. Next, we walked around the space whilst we watched Matt demonstrate the next tasks, he slowly introduced moving down onto the floor, rolling, and standing again.  This progressed into faster, slightly more complicated routines, the students had to roll across the floor, walk like a reptile and crawl like a lizard.  He then entered in a competition element, getting each line to try and travel further across the room than the next,  creating a very relaxed, fun atmosphere.  By the end of this sweat was dripping and we were all very warm.  The second part of the workshop involved some partner work and a taught floorwork routine, which I must say everyone picked up incredibly well and put their all into performing.  The workshop ended with the students creating their own choreography.  In groups of 5 they had 5 minutes to create 4 counts of 8.  They each performed their pieces in front of each other.  Matt then got 2 groups up at a time, they had to comment and say which parts complimented and which contrasted.  By the end of the session they had put together 3.30 minutes of choreography, which they performed for the parents.

It was a fantastic 3 hours, Matt was a brilliant teacher, adding humour and comedy to the class, making the students feel at ease.  He wrote an email of thanks, saying that he had had a wonderful afternoon teaching our children and that they were a very talented bunch! ?  Well done and thank you to all who took part, it was great!
